MMU Visit Reflective Blog Post

On 9th December 2024, I went to visit Manchester Metropolitan University to see their special book collection for the purpose of getting inspiration from unique designs of books to get an idea of what my own design could look like for my book. Students from my course and myself were asked to put on blue gloves to handle each design with care to prevent us from accidentally ripping part of a page.

We were asked to fill in a declaration form of each design we photographed, our full names, address, signature and date of the visit in agreement that we wouldn’t post any photographs of these designs on social media, blog posts to avoid infringing copyright law.

At this time, I picked out a few designs that I was intrigued by the most to take photographs of for inspiration as they appeared to be simple to create.

The visit overall was a great experience and opportunity to see different ways information can be displayed with a unique design. This was eye-opening to me as this visit was important for our assignment which was to create a 6000-word essay that would be turned into a book. If I had the opportunity to visit MMU’s special collection again, I would try create ideas for a book design that is more complex.
