Filming A Roll and B Roll for Stride (Week 25)

House of Sport

On Monday 11th March, I travelled to the House of Sport in Etihad Campus with my class using the nearest tram stop to my house to get there. Inside the House of Sports was where we set up interviews, on the opposite end of the Athletics Hub which had a room with tables and chairs. We brought 2 lights to eliminate shadows in the background, 3 cameras (with our own SD cards) to film the interviews and footage of pupils training in the tracks, 3 microphones to attach on top of the cameras, 3 tripods to attach at the bottom of the cameras, headphones to attach to the side of the camera that we are using for recording interviews, extension lead to plug in the lights and place them anywhere, and a reflector to reflect any light to eliminate shadows if it is needed. As for the interviews itself, I was the one who asked questions for the pupils and members of staff related to Stride itself and the activities that they do (e.g what have you learned?, why did you come to Stride?, how has Stride improved your confidence?, what is your role in Stride?, what do you teach your students/pupils?, and in your opinion, what do you think is the purpose of Stride?)

Interview Room and Setup

Young Peoples Centre

On Wednesday 13th March, I went to the Young Peoples Centre to take some photographs (B Roll) with my class (by taxi that had already been booked for us), using the same cameras as we used to film the interviews at the House of Sports. We had taken continuous shots of students/pupils doing training exercises such as stretching, push ups, sit ups, shadow boxing, and boxing practice with punching bags and boxing gloves. The experience there was very much enjoyable to the point where I had a go with using the punching bags and recording myself doing it using one of the cameras that we have borrowed for the session. Moss Side Powerhouse Hub

In the following week, I went to the Moss Side Powerhouse Hub with my class (by taxi) to film the last of the B Roll of pupils and staff and we were originally going to set up a final interview with one of the members and also record vox pops but unfortunately we didn’t get time to bring people in as the members of staff were already busy with managing the activities.
