Charlie Watts (Week 1)

Charlie Watts is a director and photographer who has created films for a number of sporting goods companies and television networks, including Adidas and the BBC, and who has also created portraits of people and Manchester faces (MCR Faces). He has been discussed in publications and pieces including The Telegraph and The Guardian.

Sunday, one of his films that The Guardian has covered, is about feelings, friendship, and football. When discussing how COVID and players’ mental health, Watts states, “If you don’t have anything to look forward to, it can have a detrimental effect on your health, whether that is mental or physical,” around halfway through the short film. For instance, it is reported that a player tried to commit suicide during lockdown because there was nothing to look forward to and was brought to the hospital.

Environment Sequence

For the environment sequence I have been tasked with, a classmate of mine named Oliver and I created the idea of making the environment sequence based on the journey on the train from Navigation Road to Stockport College. Oliver had created 12 different scenes on two storyboards (about the journey to the college) while I created the final storyboard about the damaged buildings outside Stockport College.

These storyboards were just ideas to refer to when creating the environment sequence.

When creating the environment sequence, I decided to animate part of the journey from Navigation Road station to Stockport station inside FlipaClip (which is used for animation). The other part of the environment sequence was recorded using real life footage of walking down the streets of Stockport from the station and looking at different buildings that are closed or damaged.

I used Adobe Premiere Pro to stitch the videos together to create the environment sequence.

In lesson, I have learnt how to set up my WordPress website for the first time by creating my pages using any theme that I can choose (as long as it is free) and creating posts that are used for recording the highlights of what I do each week.
